Went to the swap meet in Canfield today to pick up a set of wheels for the Chevelle, and just when I was thinking I wouldn’t be able to find a set, I did. They were, of course, as far as physically possible from where we parked.

Got the wheels for a great price, and they’ve recently been refinished (and it seems to be a very well-done refinishing too - they’re even clear coated). They came with center caps in pretty rough shape, but I picked three others up in better condition before the rain came. I also got a set of new production trim rings, which are impossible to find in good shape and original since they tend to take a lot of abuse when the car is driven.

Only one ring is shown below since they were so nicely packaged in the box. The caps (which are the fairly beat-up ones) and ring are just sitting there, I didn’t want to snap them on and mess up the fresh-to-me paint just yet!

The caps need a little cleaning up, but otherwise these should be ready to get the tires I picked up a while ago mounted and balanced and put on the car once I finish the complete brake system overhaul (which comes after the current exhaust work).

nice score! Got some Camaro trim rings cant go wrong with those. Those center caps are originals, as far as I know all the aftermarket ones have a bowtie in the middle of the cap that the originals dont have. That setup with diamond back redlines is what I am running on my 68 Camaro.

Yeah the caps are originals by the stamping and codes inside (and like you mentioned they don’t have the bow-tie) - the wheels are OEM as well, though I haven’t figure out the year yet.

I bet they look great on your Camaro! I really look forward to getting these on my Chevelle, but I need to finish the new exhaust and redo the brakes first.

The center caps do need a little bit of attention, they’re a bit scratched up and some have dings in the stamped base in addition to the black painted part on the casting needing fresh paint. I have a couple spares to experiment with ways to get them as cleaned up as possible. By contract, the wheels and rings are ready to go, so I may look into getting my tires (BFG Radial T/As) mounted and balanced before too long - just need to find somewhere I trust to do it and use the adhesive weights that go inside the wheel.

I had the BFG’s on the camaro when i first got the car together, its a classic look you cant beat, but ive restored my camaro back to stock so redlines were a must.

the FW code you list in another reply indicates a 71 and newer rally. The second digit in the date stamp, located near the two letter code, is the year code. so say a 1 or 2 would mean 1971 or 1972.
